For the mass production of an advanced AI Chip, Samsung Foundry has joined hands with DeepX. Production has started, with usage expected from 30 firms by mid-2025.

Samsung Foundry has partnered with South Korean company DeepX to produce 5nm AI chips. As one of the world’s significant contract semiconductor manufacturers, the foundry will mass-produce the Korean tech firm’s first-generation AI chip, the DX-M1, in this collaboration.

DeepX has revealed that the production has already begun, although no financial details of the deal were disclosed

The AI chip DX-M1 will utilise Samsung Foundry’s 5nm fabrication process, aiming to deliver high performance and lower power consumption. It has been designed to address the increasing demand for AI solutions across various industries.

Reports indicate that DeepX received the initial DX-M1 chip samples from Samsung Foundry in June 2024. After a series of performance tests, the company is now ready to commence mass production.

DeepX developed several prototypes of the chip using Goanchips’ and Samsung Foundry’s 5nm, 14nm, and 28nm fabrication processes.

Meanwhile, it has also signed an agreement with Goanchips, a Samsung Foundry design solution partner. Goanchips specialises in optimising chip designs for mass production and supports Samsung Electronics clients.

A DeepX official stated that the DX-M1 represents a significant opportunity for the company to enter the global AI semiconductor market. They mentioned that DeepX aims to lead the AI semiconductor sector in North America, Greater China, and Europe by offering advanced AI solutions tailored to their customers’ diverse needs.

If production proceeds as planned, the chip will be used by 10 major global firms this year and 20 by mid-2025. The company has already supplied AI chips and software tools to over 120 US, China, Europe, and Japan firms.

Introduced at CES in January, the DX-M1 chip promises high performance with low energy consumption, real-time on-device AI processing, and broad compatibility with various AI models.
