Aiming to boost grid reliability and driving digital transformation for a sustainable energy future, SECO and Hitachi Energy join hands to create smart utility boxes.

Italian Internet of Things (IoT) solutions provider SECO announced a collaboration with Hitachi Energy on Monday to develop an innovative range of utility smart boxes, aimed at enhancing communication and data management across utilities infrastructure.

The utility smart box family aims to help utilities optimise operations in the energy sector, improve grid reliability, and drive the transition to a sustainable energy future.

As per the deal, SECO is set to design and develop the new product line, integrating hardware solutions using Qualcomm IoT processors. The company will also be responsible for manufacturing and supplying the finished products to Hitachi Energy, ensuring that they meet quality standards.

Hitachi Energy will contribute its industry expertise to ensure the products align with current market needs and standards. This collaboration aims to produce more than 200,000 devices in the coming years.

In addition, SECO and Hitachi Energy will jointly develop an IoT platform based on Clea to manage current and future connected devices. Clea is SECO’s all-in-one software suite designed to create IoT solutions that leverage field data.

This will allow manufacturers, distributors, and integrators to offer services through connected products, such as the utility smart box family. This platform will also support a shared go-to-market strategy for both companies.

Commenting on the partnership, Vincenzo Difronzo, Chief Sales Officer of SECO stated, “This strategic agreement between SECO and Hitachi Energy highlights our shared commitment to innovation and excellence in utility solutions.”

Expressing his confidence that the deal is laying the groundwork to shape the future of the energy sector, Marco Sanguineti, Head of Technology and R&D, Automation and Communication, Hitachi Energy, noted, “By combining our expertise in energy automation with SECO’s cutting-edge IoT solutions, we are creating a new generation of Utility Smart Boxes that will drive digital transformation and enable smarter, more sustainable energy systems for the future.”

Headquartered in Arezzo, Italy, SECO develops solutions for industrial digitalisation, enabling B2B companies to integrate IoT, edge computing, AI, and data analytics, serving over 450 customers across various sectors while promoting resource efficiency.
