Siemens and Nvidia develop an Ai-powered PCB inspection workflow.
Siemens and Nvidia are collaborating to develop adaptive, Ai-powered manufacturing capabilities that combine industrial software, Siemens’ Digital Twin technology and Nvidia Cosmos. The collaboration aims to accelerate production planning inspection preparation and optimisation. The companies are creating an AI-powered workflow for PCB inspection by integrating Siemens Teamcenter software for product-lifecycle-management(PLM), Siemens Process Preparation X and Nvidia Cosmos.
The workflow enables electronics manufacturers to prepare and optimise automated optical inspection (AOI) process before physical production begins. The approach moves inspection preparation into a virtual environment reducing dependence on physical prototypes and samples.
The project at Siemens Electronics Factory Erlangen targets up to 85% less manual engineering effort in AOI programme generation, 40% fewer false calls during inspection, more than 5% improvement in first-pass yield. These figures are project targets , not confirmed results achieved in production.
The intended benefits for electronics manufacturers include faster inspection preparation and production readiness, reduced manual engineering and verification work, better calibrated inspection processes, lower dependence on physical samples and improved manufacturing quality and production efficiency.
Traditionally, introducing a new product or product variant requires a physical prototype before optical inspection processes can be prepared and trained for quality control. Siemens and Nvidia aim to move much of this preparation into the virtual environment. Siemens Teamcenter supplies PCB design , bill of materials (BOM) and component information. Process Preparation X validates, normalises and assembles this information into a digital twin of the printed circuit board assembly (PCBA).
The collaboration is being demonstrated at Siemens Electronics Factory Erlangen in Germany. The facility serves as ‘Customer Zero’ for adaptive, AI-powered production.
“By connecting the comprehensive Digital Twin to the shop floor and AI we are improving both line productivity and p[product quality. At the Erlangen factory, we’re demonstrating how the deterministic nature of Siemens’ Digital Twin is the foundation for leveraging physics AI for preparing production” Mark Hindsbo Executive VP, Operations Software, Siemens.
