Silicon Labs, Kudelski IoT Partner To Ease IoT Production

Eyeing to enhance security while simplifying manufacturing processes, Silicon Labs and Kudelski IoT have teamed up to streamline Matter-certified IoT device production.

Silicon Labs, specialising in secure wireless technology, has partnered with Kudelski IoT, a division of the Kudelski Group and a provider of digital security and IoT solutions, to launch a new solution to speed up the time to market for matter-certified IoT devices.

This collaboration will incorporate Kudelski IoT’s matter device attestation certificates (DAC) into Silicon Labs’ custom part manufacturing service (CPMS), allowing manufacturers to implement ‘zero trust’ security from production to delivery, saving time and costs.

Furthermore, the integrated CPMS and DAC injection service will provide several benefits like secure injection of signed DACs at designated Silicon Labs factories, simplified key management, reduced manufacturing complexity, faster time-to-market for Matter-certified products, and enhanced protection against counterfeiting and overproduction.

According to the company, the zero trust framework, which emphasises ‘never trust, always verify’ and continuous authentication, is crucial for the Matter protocol, an IP-based connectivity standard.

It requires unique device authentication certificates based on public key infrastructure (PKI) to ensure strong security. However, this adds complexity for manufacturers in securely obtaining and transferring these certificates from Certificate Authorities to their production sites.

By merging Silicon Labs’ secure manufacturing capabilities with Kudelski’s certified Matter PKI services, IoT manufacturers will be able to securely inject Matter DACs during production, simplifying the process for high-volume manufacturing.

Silicon Labs’ Matter DAC injection will be available for MG24 wireless SoCs and modules featuring secure vault technology. Once product development and Matter certification through the connectivity standards alliance (CSA) are completed, manufacturers can order via the Silicon Labs CPMS web portal, with sample parts shipped within 4-6 weeks for testing and validation before placing volume orders.

Rohit Ravichandran, product manager for security and services at Silicon Labs, stated, “Matter volume production does not have to be a complex hurdle. Our secure provisioning service, combined with Kudelski IoT’s expertise, allows manufacturers to prioritise innovation without sacrificing security.”

Chrystophe Clément, the principal architect at Kudelski IoT, remarked, “Kudelski IoT’s Matter Product Attestation Certificate Service does the heavy lifting, making it easier to join the Matter ecosystem. We are excited to partner with Silicon Labs to promote Matter adoption and lessen the burdens on manufacturers.”
