Thursday, March 13, 2014: With clean energy being the new mantra for the government of India (GOI), public sector units have joined the programme. Taking a step towards green initiatives, the Navratna PSU, National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO) is setting up a grid connected, PV system for a rooftop solar power project with 160 Kwp capacity. The project is approved for the company’s corporate office building at Bhubaneswar.
The project was launched in Bhubaneswar by Ansuman Das, the chairman cum managing director of NALCO, on Wednesday. With 30 per cent subsidy in capital, provided by GOI’s Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI), it is anticipated to generate energy of nearly 210,000 units per year.
The PSU has been proactive in its ventures toward renewable energy resources, as NALCO has been promoting sustainable implementation by way of supporting clean energy. The company has already commissioned two wind power plants in assistance to the programme. The first project is of a capacity 50.4 MW at Gandikota in Andra Pradesh, and the second is 47.6 MW capacity Ludarva in Rajasthan. It is to be noted, that NALCO will soon be setting up the third wind power plant in its self-mined region, Panchpatmali Bauxite deposit, in Koraput (Odisha).
