EV Revolution Accelerates Stellantis & Samsung SDI Unveil Ambitious Plan for 34 GWh Production Facility!

Automaker Stellantis and battery maker Samsung SDI have set their sights on expanding EV battery production in the US with the announcement of a second joint-venture plant. The facility, expected to begin production in 2027, will have an initial capacity of 34 GWh, further propelling the companies’ ambitious plan to introduce at least 25 new battery electric vehicles to the North American market by the end of the decade.

Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares expressed the plant’s strategic significance, stating that it will be instrumental in achieving its aggressive target of electrifying. With Stellantis aiming for 100% electric passenger car sales in Europe and 50% electric mix in the US by 2030, this joint venture marks a crucial step in their electrification journey.

The collaboration between Stellantis and Samsung SDI to build their first joint battery plant in Kokomo, Indiana, set to open in 2025 with an initial capacity of 23 GWh. With plans to reach 33 GWh eventually, and an investment of over $2.5 billion, the existing partnership lays the groundwork for the future expansion of EV battery production in the region.

Stellantis’ ambitious plans to invest $35 billion into global EV production and software through 2025, combined with their ongoing joint ventures with Samsung SDI and other partners, showcases their unwavering commitment to electrification. With other ventures underway in Canada and Indiana, the company is positioning itself at the forefront of the electric revolution.

As the demand for electric vehicles continues to surge, the establishment of a second joint-venture plant in the US demonstrates Stellantis and Samsung SDI’s dedication to transforming the automotive industry.
