Tamil Nadu Approves ₹441 Billion Projects, Including Renewable

Eyeing expansion into the electronics and renewable energy sector, the Tamil Nadu government has ratified 15 projects, including battery manufacturing and wind power generation, that are set to generate nearly 25,000 jobs.

On Tuesday, the Tamil Nadu cabinet approved 15 investment proposals worth ₹441.25 billion across multiple sectors, including electronics, automotive, battery manufacturing, and food processing, projected to create over 24,700 jobs in the state.

As stated by State Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu, the cabinet also endorsed three renewable energy policies to reach a 20,000 MW power generation target by 2030 during its 16th meeting, which was led by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin at the secretariat.

Amongst the three renewable energy projects, a wind repowering and life extension policy received its approval. The other sanctioned projects include a ₹21.34 billion investment by lithium-ion battery supplier Semcorp in Thoothukudi, which is set to create 1,114 jobs, while Motherson Electronics will invest ₹25 billion in Kanchipuram, generating 2,500 jobs.

Additionally, Milky Mist will allocate ₹17.77 billion for a food processing unit in Erode, and LOHUM is projected to invest ₹15.97 billion in Krishnagiri for producing raw materials for battery manufacturing.

This facility, costing approximately ₹7.06 billion, is located at the SIPCOT Vallam Vadagal industrial estate in Sriperumbudur, Kancheepuram district.

The state Industries Minister TRB Rajaa highlighted that new industries are being introduced in Tamil Nadu to boost job creation and hinted at the upcoming expansion of the electronics sector across the state.

Approvals were also granted for the global capability centres of pharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca and logistics and shipping leader UPS.
