TATA AutoComp has launched its Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) manufacturing plant. This Li-Ion-based BESS will be produced through its joint venture, Tata AutoComp Gotion Green Energy Solutions.
The inauguration of a new plant was led by Dr Praveer Sinha, CEO and Managing Director of Tata Power, along with Arvind Goel, Chairman of Tata AutoComp Systems. This event marked the beginning of a significant collaboration between Tata AutoComp and Tata Power in the field of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). During the ceremony held in Pune, the first set of BESS was officially handed over to Dr. Sinha. These systems are planned to be utilized in the construction of a 120 MW Energy Storage Park in Chhattisgarh.
Dr Praveer Sinha expressed his enthusiasm for partnering with Tata AutoComp to develop BESS. He highlighted the increasing importance of energy storage in managing the variability of renewable energy sources like solar and wind. Dr Sinha emphasized Tata Power’s commitment to integrating these storage systems at their renewable sites, aiming to provide continuous, clean power and accelerate the transition to green energy.
Arvind Goel, reflecting on Tata AutoComp’s role, stated their commitment to pioneering new technologies and leveraging their expertise in the automotive sector to cater to emerging markets with technological synergies. He mentioned that Tata AutoComp would supply these BESS to Tata Power, a leading entity in the Tata Group’s energy sector.
The BESS facility, spanning 22,227 square feet with a capacity of 6 GWH, is set to cater to the growing demands of the energy storage industry. Previously, Tata AutoComp had agreed to provide BESS to Tata Power Solar Systems Ltd, a subsidiary of Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited, for its renewable projects. This facility represents a significant step in addressing the growing need for energy storage solutions in renewable energy projects.
