Before the 2020 release of Tata Motors’ first electric vehicle, the e-Nexon, the company had already set up 50,000 home chargers starting in 2018. They aim to have 7,000 public EV charging stations by the close of the fiscal year 2024.
Tata Power Charging Solutions, the leading EV charging provider in the nation, aims to increase its semi-public and public chargers from the present 4,000 to 25,000—a more than six-fold rise—in the next five years. The company’s optimism is fueled by the notable month-to-month growth in registered users on its mobile app, reflecting the rapid shift to EVs, as stated by a company official.
Virendra Goyal, Head of Business Development (EV Charging) at Tata Power, feels the company’s expansion efforts are scaling up each month with the rapid growth of EVs. The increase in the app’s registered users is particularly encouraging. For the current fiscal year, the number of users has increased to 168,000 users compared to 135,000 for the last year.
Tata Power Renewables covers the complete spectrum of charging solutions, encompassing home, public (and semi-public), bus, and fleet charging domains. The company began rolling out home chargers in 2018 before the launch of e-Nexon in 2020 and has since installed 50,000 of them. They aim to wrap up the fiscal year 2024 with over 7,000 public EV charging stations.
