MoU signed to develop large-scale renewable projects with ₹49,000 crore investment
Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), a subsidiary of The Tata Power Company Limited, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Andhra Pradesh to develop renewable energy projects in the state.
The MoU was signed in Amaravati and focuses on advancing renewable energy initiatives. Under this agreement, TPREL and the Andhra Pradesh Government will explore opportunities to develop up to 7,000 MW (7 GW) of renewable energy, including solar, wind, and hybrid projects with or without storage solutions. The estimated investment for these projects is approximately ₹49,000 crore.
This initiative aligns with Andhra Pradesh’s plan to expand its renewable energy capacity. Beyond supporting clean energy targets, the MoU is expected to contribute to economic growth, skill development, and employment generation in the state.
The projects will be developed under Andhra Pradesh’s Integrated Clean Energy (ICE) Policy, which aims to facilitate over 160 GW of renewable energy projects with an investment potential of ₹10 lakh crore.
Deepesh Nanda, CEO & Managing Director of TPREL, stated, “This partnership will help develop up to 7 GW of clean energy projects, strengthening Andhra Pradesh’s renewable energy sector. By using advanced technology and expertise, this collaboration will contribute to India’s clean energy goals.”
Shri Nara Lokesh, Minister for Information Technology, Electronics & Communications, and Human Resources Development of Andhra Pradesh, said, “This collaboration strengthens our long-standing relationship with the Tata group. Investments in renewable energy will support economic growth, job creation, and environmental sustainability. Our clean energy policy aims to attract ₹10 lakh crore in investments and create 7.5 lakh jobs.”
As part of the agreement, TPREL will conduct feasibility studies and preliminary assessments. The New and Renewable Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (NREDCAP) will assist with site identification and infrastructure support. This initiative is expected to enhance Andhra Pradesh’s renewable energy capacity and contribute to India’s energy transition.
