Thailand Approves $1.99 Billion Investments In AI, Electronics, and Clean Energy

Taiwan Union Technology will invest 6.3 billion baht ($189.2 million) in Chonburi to manufacture CCL

Thailand has approved nine investment projects worth 66.3 billion baht (approximately $1.99 billion) across artificial intelligence (AI), advanced electronics, aviation, clean energy and food manufacturing, as the country strengthens its position as a regional manufacturing hub amid global supply chain diversification.

The projects were approved at a meeting of the Thailand Board of Investment (BOI), chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Ekniti Nitithanprapas.

According to BOI Secretary General Narit Therdsteerasukdi, the investments from leading multinational companies reflect growing confidence in Thailand’s industrial ecosystem and will strengthen the country’s role in the global AI and advanced electronics value chain.

As part of its strategy to support technology-intensive investments, the BOI has expanded its specialised energy committee into the Subcommittee on Energy Management for Data Center Investment and Project Screening. Chaired by the Minister of Energy, the panel will evaluate proposed data centre projects on electricity consumption, environmental impact and clean energy sourcing before they become eligible for investment incentives.

Among the approved projects, Japan’s DataAZAsection (Thailand) Co., Ltd. will invest 7.8 billion baht ($235.2 million) to establish GPU server infrastructure in Bangkok and Pathum Thani for AI computing and data hosting services.

South Korea’s Doosan Electro-Materials (Thailand) Co., Ltd. received approval to invest 6 billion baht ($180.2 million) in Samut Prakan to manufacture copper-clad laminate (CCL) and prepreg materials used in printed circuit boards (PCBs).

Taiwan Union Technology (Thailand) Co., Ltd. will invest 6.3 billion baht ($189.2 million) in Chonburi to manufacture CCL and prepreg for AI servers and data centres, while Fulltech Fiber Glass (Thailand) Co., Ltd. will invest 3.3 billion baht ($99.4 million) in Chachoengsao to produce specialised glass fibre fabric for PCB production.

Outside the electronics sector, Nestlé (Thai) Co., Ltd. secured approval for a 22.9 billion baht ($688.7 million) investment to expand its coffee production facilities in Samut Prakan. The expansion will increase manufacturing capacity for instant, mixed and ready-to-drink coffee to serve both domestic and Southeast Asian markets.

Thai Airways International PCL also received approval for two projects worth a combined 14.3 billion baht ($430.2 million) to lease eight passenger aircraft for its international operations.

In the renewable energy sector, Lomrak Green Energy Co., Ltd. will invest 5.6 billion baht ($168.7 million) in two wind power projects in Lopburi province with a combined generation capacity of 120 MW.

To support future hyperscale data centre investments, the Thai government has also introduced a seven-point energy action plan that includes dedicated electricity tariffs for data centres, expanded clean power procurement through Direct Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), accelerated grid development and improved planning for water and electricity infrastructure.

The government said the measures are intended to ensure long-term energy security while supporting Thailand’s transition to a cleaner and more technology-driven economy.
