TPREL Starts 800 MW Renewable Energy Project in Andhra Pradesh

Project comprises 400 MW of solar power capacity and 400 MW of wind power capacity (to be developed by Suzlon)

Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL) has recently announced construction of an 800 MW renewable energy project in Andhra Pradesh, combining 400 MW of wind power and 400 MW of solar power.

The wind component will be developed at Kanekallu in Ananthapuram district, while the solar component will be located at Pattikonda in Kurnool district. TPREL will develop the wind asset, with Suzlon handling the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) work for the 400 MW wind project.

The remaining 400 MW capacity includes a 200 MW Firm and Dispatchable Renewable Energy (FDRE) project for NTPC, integrated with a 25 MW / 50 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). The balance 200 MW solar capacity is available for future allocation.

The project has achieved 800 MW Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS) connectivity through the Ananthapuram II and Kurnool-4 CTUIL substations, enabling evacuation of renewable power into the national transmission network.

Developed under the Andhra Pradesh Integrated Clean Energy (ICE) Policy, the project will accelerate renewable energy deployment and support sustainable industrial growth in the state. It will require about 3,462 acres of land, including 2,700 acres for solar installations and 760 acres for wind development.

The project will create annual lease income for landowners and create around 4,000 direct and indirect jobs during development, construction and operations.

Nara Lokesh said the project reflects growing investor confidence in Andhra Pradesh’s clean energy ecosystem and will contribute to the state’s long-term sustainable growth.

Dr. Praveer Sinha stated that integrating solar and wind capacity will help deliver reliable, round-the-clock renewable power and support India’s increasing energy demand while advancing national sustainability goals.

Suzlon Co-founder Girish Tanti said that the project strengthens the long-standing partnership between Suzlon and Tata Power Renewables, with the collaboration now crossing the 1 GW milestone.

The project reinforces TPREL’s renewable energy expansion strategy and aligns with India’s target of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030. It also supports Tata Power’s goal of becoming 100% clean energy by 2045. Tata Power’s renewable portfolio currently stands at 17.7 GW, including 9.8 GW under construction.
