TSMC Raises 2026 Capex to $64B as AI Chip Demand Surges 

The world’s largest chipmaker posted record quarterly profit and announced another $100 billion investment in its Arizona manufacturing expansion.

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) has announced an additional $100 billion investment in its Arizona operations while significantly increasing its 2026 capital expenditure outlook, citing sustained demand for advanced chips used in artificial intelligence (AI) applications.

The world’s largest contract chipmaker now expects to spend $60–64 billion on capital investments this year, up from its earlier guidance of $52–56 billion. The expanded spending plan reflects growing confidence in long-term AI demand and comes on top of the $165 billion already committed to building semiconductor manufacturing facilities in Arizona.

TSMC also reported a record second-quarter net profit of NT$706.6 billion (about $22 billion), a 77% year-on-year increase that exceeded market expectations. The results marked the company’s ninth consecutive quarter of double-digit profit growth.

The company raised its full-year revenue forecast, projecting U.S. dollar revenue growth of slightly more than 40%, compared with its earlier estimate of over 30%. For the third quarter, TSMC expects revenue between $44.6 billion and $45.8 billion, up from $33.1 billion in the same period last year.

Strong customer demand for 3nm and 2nm process technologies, along with its advanced CoWoS chip packaging technology, continues to drive growth. These technologies are widely used in AI processors supplied to companies including Nvidia and Apple.

TSMC’s performance reinforces its position as a key indicator of global semiconductor demand. The company’s market valuation has climbed to nearly $2 trillion, making it one of the world’s most valuable technology firms and almost twice the size of rival Samsung Electronics by market capitalization.

The announcement follows a similar upbeat outlook from Dutch semiconductor equipment maker ASML, which recently raised its 2026 sales forecast amid continued AI-driven investment in chip manufacturing.
