The Uttar Pradesh government has announced its plan to set up a 50 MW solar plant in the heart of the Bakhira bird sanctuary.
The Sant Kabir Nagar district magistrate initiated the proposal to the Uttar Pradesh New & Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA).
UPNEDA Director Anupam Shukla said: “We are exploring the possibility of setting up a 50 MW solar plant in the Bakhira lake area in Sant Kabir Nagar district under the Uttar Pradesh government’s solar policy. Soon, interested developers will invite bids to set up the plant, which may be floating or ground-mounted, depending on the feasibility report.”
The UPNEDA (Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency) has tasked the Lucknow Solar Power Development Corporation Ltd (LSPDCL) with conducting a comprehensive feasibility study to assess the viability of establishing a solar power plant in the Bakhira region.
The study aims to determine the most suitable type of solar plant for the area, considering its unique geographical topography. Established in 2015, LSPDCL is a collaborative effort between UPNEDA and the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI). This evaluation will help ascertain whether a floating solar plant or a ground-mounted one is better suited to harness solar energy efficiently in Bakhira.
