Tesla’s EV charging network excelled against most of its key rivals, achieving scores of 658 out of 1000 for Level 2 charging stations and 731 out of 1000 for DC fast chargers.
The results from the “2024 Electric Vehicle Experience Public Charging Study” conducted by JD Power indicate that Tesla Superchargers deliver the best charging experience, surpassing other companies by a significant margin. The study commends Tesla Superchargers for their robust construction and world-class reliability, noting these qualities as reasons for recommending that all automakers adopt Tesla’s North American Charging Standard (NACS) for their electric vehicles. It also highlights that EV owners prefer using Tesla Superchargers regardless of their vehicle’s brand.
Tesla’s EV charging network outshone most of its primary competitors with scores of 658 out of 1000 for Level 2 charging stations and 731 out of 1000 for DC fast chargers. In comparison, ChargePoint, which ranked second, scored 626 and 627 in the same categories respectively, significantly trailing behind Tesla’s performance.
Brent Gruber, executive director of J.D. Power’s EV practice, mentioned that Tesla and non-Tesla owners both express the greatest satisfaction when using Tesla Supercharger stations. He also pointed out the growing appreciation among non-Tesla EV owners, like those driving vehicles from Ford or Rivian, who now have access to Tesla’s extensive Supercharger network. Despite some complaints from Tesla owners about increased usage leading to decreased availability of Superchargers since the beginning of the year, the convenience and payment system continues to receive high marks from users. However, J.D. Power has observed a decline in Tesla owners’ satisfaction with the availability of Superchargers since then.
