Saturday, December 27, 2014: P Narayana, municipal administration minister, said that Visakhapatnam would be made the first solar city in the country and Vijayawada will be transformed in to a world class city. While laying the foundation stone of a water treatment plant which is constructed at a cost of 80 million, the minister added that solar lights would replace 96,000 street lights in Visakhapatnam, out of which 85,000 lights have already been replaced.
He said that prime minster Narendra Modi would be invited to inaugurate the solar city. A 30-officer delegation is scheduled to visit various countries from January 19, 2015 to 23 in order to sight the civic installations being rendered there.
