Made locally in Pune to meet rising market demand, ZF India to deliver thousands of 9-speed transmissions to an Indian commercial vehicle manufacturer.
ZF India has entered into a partnership with an Indian commercial vehicle (CV) manufacturer to supply several thousand manual and automated manual transmissions (AMTs) for heavy-duty trucks with an engine power exceeding 300 horsepower (HP).
The agreement implies that ZF will supply its EcoMid and EcoTronic Mid transmission models, which are intended for trucks with over 300HP and 1300Nm torque. These will be manufactured at the company’s facility in Chakan, Pune. The name of the manufacturer, however, is yet to be disclosed.

According to the firm, this marks a development in India’s push toward efficient and locally manufactured driveline solutions, supporting supporting the ‘Make in India for India’ initiative.

ZF highlighted that the EcoMid and EcoTronic Mild transmissions aim to have an impact on drivers and fleet operators. Their goals are to make trucks more fuel-efficient, easier to drive, and less prone to wear and tear that may require expensive repairs.
“The technology is compatible across a wide range of CV applications and significantly minimises driver fatigue, maximises fuel efficiency and clutch life,” noted the company.
P Kaniappan, Senior Vice President, ZF Group, commented on the deal, mentioning that it not only strengthens their postion in the CV sector but also aligns with the market’s shift towards higher efficiencies in higher-tonnage vehicles.
“We are committed to delivering substantial progress for our customers and the Indian market,” he said.
“With over six decades of strong market presence in India, ZF has consistently provided advanced technology solutions that enhance operational efficiencies,” added Akash Passey, President of ZF Group in India.
