ESSCI Marks 10 Years of Accomplishment In The Electronics Sector With Renewed Focus On New Opportunity & Industry Collaboration

The Electronics Sector Skills Council of India (ESSCI) celebrated its 10th foundation day on Saturday late evening at the NDMC Convention Centre in New Delhi. The event was graced by the presence of Shri Atul Kumar Tiwari, Secretary of MSDE, as the Chief Guest, along with other dignitaries including Dr Neena Pahuja , Executive Member of NCVET, Guest of Honor, Dr Ajai Chowdhry, Founder of HCL and Chairman EPIC Foundation, Mr Amrit Manwani, Chairman of ESSCI, Shri Smit Shah, President, Drone Federation of India, Dr. Rangitabali Waikhom, IAS – Director, University & Higher Education, Govt. of Manipur and Dr Abhilasha Gaur, COO, ESSCI.

During the event, the chief guest and other dignitaries unveiled a Skills Research Report on Semiconductors & Components, EMS, Hearables & Wearables, and Circularity/E-waste Management. This report aims to help bridge the talent gap in the industry and provide insights into the latest trends and job opportunities in the electronics sector. Apart from the skills research report, the event also saw the launch of the ELCINA White Paper on Workforce Development for Semiconductors. In the event, Electronics Olympiad in association with CSC was announced. This will begin the awareness of electronics and skill recognition of students in schools, colleges and higher education institutions.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Atul Kumar Tiwari, Secretary, MSDE said: “ESSCI is putting a lot of emphasis on the Semi-Conductor industry as I believe it will greatly benefit the youth. There are numerous opportunities in this field, and we are currently working on reforming the curriculum to better align with industry demands. MSDE short-term courses are specifically designed to upskill and re-skill individuals for the electronics industry.”

Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was exchanged between The Directorate of University & Higher Education, Manipur, represented by Dr. Rangitabali Waikhom, IAS, and ESSCI to launch New Age Industry Integrated Programmes in the Electronics & IT Sector. The objective of this MoU is to build “For Industry, By Industry” focused & advanced Digital Skills learning programmes in collaboration with Industry Partners. It also aims to establish Skill Labs/ Model Training Centre/Centre of Excellence, to facilitate on job training, internships, apprenticeships and employment and entrepreneurship opportunities for the students, and Degree apprenticeship undergraduate programmes in Manipur.

A panel discussion on the future of India’s semiconductor and component industry was held at the event, featuring distinguished speakers from the Indian government, industry partners in the semiconductor sector, the semiconductor mission, and other pioneering figures in the industry.

Dr Neena Pahuja, Executive Member of NCVET, emphasized the importance of skilling in the electronics sector, stating, “The electronics industry is one of the fastest-growing sectors in the country, and there is a need for skilled professionals to meet the demands of the industry. The efforts of ESSCI in promoting skilling and development opportunities in the electronics sector are commendable and will go a long way in shaping the future of the industry.”

The event also included the felicitation of the winners of WorldSkills Competition 2022, who showcased their exceptional skills in the electronics sector. Overall, the 10th foundation day of ESSCI was a huge success, highlighting the organization’s efforts in promoting skilling and development opportunities in the electronics sector and bridging the talent gap in the industry.

Mr Amrit Manwani, Chairman of ESSCI, spoke about the latest research unveiled at the event and the potential of job opportunities and skilling in semiconductors & components, EMS, hearables & wearables, and circularity. He said, “The electronics sector is evolving rapidly, and it is crucial for professionals to stay up-to-date with the latest trends and technologies. The research unveiled today will provide valuable insights into the industry and help bridge the talent gap.”.

Dr Ajai Choudhary, Former chairman, ESSCI, Founder of HCL, spoke about ESSCI journey in the past decade, its achievement and contribution in skilling India in the ESDM sector. He emphasised on making India as the product nation.

Dr Abhilasha Gaur, Chief Operating Officer of ESSCI said, “On our 10th foundation day, we are proud to have achieved many milestones and contributed significantly to the growth of the Indian electronics industry. We are committed to taking ESSCI to new heights and achieving more success in the future.”
