Wraparound chip resistor arrays
In December 2013, Vishay Intertechnology extended its PRA series of high-precision thin film surface-mount wraparound chip resistor arrays to the compact 073 and 074 case sizes. The new PRA073 and PRA074 are the industry’s smallest such devices available with up to eight resistors of different ohmic values, tight tolerance ratios (TCR) down to 0.01 per cent, and TCR tracking to 1 ppm/°C. Each of the new PRA arrays features a pitch of 0.7 mm, with ultra-compact dimensions of 1.4 mm x 0.75 mm for the PRA073 and 1.4 mm x 1 mm for the PRA074 (with two resistors). The devices offer ohmic ranges up to 100 kΩ, power ratings up to 40 mW per resistor at +70 °C, and limiting voltages up to 40 V. The PRA073 and PRA074 both feature very low noise of ≤ 35 dB, and a low voltage coefficient of ≤ 0.01 ppm/V.

Advanced microcontrollers
In November 2013, STMicroelectronics launched the ST33G1M2 series of advanced microcontrollers that delivers advanced performance, enhanced security, lower power consumption and even greater multi-interface flexibility. It offers the unique ability to function either in a mobile-phone NFC UICC, which handles mobile payments alongside SIM applications and user-data storage, or as a dedicated embedded secure chip in NFC smartphones. The ST33G1M2 is also unique in supporting the complete MIFARE portfolio including MIFARE Classic, MIFARE DESFire and MIFARE Plus. Further enhancements include an improved EDES+ accelerator supporting 3-key triple DES security, and support for hardware-accelerated AES encryption (AES-HW). The product is available in wafers or micromodules, or in DFN8 or WLCSP packages.

Capacitive touch controllers
In November 2013, Microchip Technology launched a new family of capacitive touch controllers called the CAP12XX family. These turnkey capacitive touch controllers expand the CAP11XX RightTouch product portfolio, providing a wide variety of slider, button and proximity functionality. Additionally, the CAP12XX controllers make it easy for designers to add aesthetically pleasing, low-cost touch interfaces. This new six-member family comprises the CAP1203, CAP1293, CAP1206, CAP1296, CAP1208 and CAP1298, available in 8- to 16-pin packages. The CAP12XX family serves a wide range of applications in the consumer electronics space like tablets, printers, audio players, small appliances and televisions. In the automotive market, it addresses the needs of automotive interior controls, central stack and overhead lights. It provides designers with improved proximity performance and 3.3V to 5V operations.

SMD resistors
In November 2013, Integrated Electronics Technology introduced high stability SMD resistors. The VSMP series provides high rated power and excellent load life stability, along with extremely low TCR. The VSMP resistor has a full wraparound termination, which ensures secure contact during the manufacturing process, as well as providing stability during multiple thermal cycles. Its applications include defence, medical electronics, automatic test equipment (ATE), electron beam applications, measurement systems, current sensing, high-precision amplifiers, weighing systems, etc. Its specifications include resistance tolerance of ± 0.01 per cent, a power rating of 750 mW at + 70 °C, a thermal stabilisation time of < 1 s, and a resistance range of 5 ohm to 125 k.
