Meridian Joins Altair’s Startup Programme To Boost UAV Tech

Eyeing to drive innovation in UAVs and hybrid power tech with simulation tools and expert support, Altair teams up with Meridian Flight Systems in the ‘Aerospace Startup Acceleration Program.’

Altair, a global leader in computational intelligence, has recently welcomed Meridian Flight Systems to its ‘Aerospace Startup Acceleration Program’ (ASAP).

This partnership will allow Meridian to utilise Altair’s advanced simulation tools, data analytics, and high-performance computing (HPC) software, along with expert technical support, to advance the development of its Corra unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) and the Hybrid Electric Range-Extending Microturbine Energy System (HERMES).

According to the company, Altair’s advanced tools will enable Meridian to focus on aerodynamics, structural integrity, aeroelastics, and thermal systems in their designs. Additionally, Altair will provide continuous technical support to ensure the software is applied effectively to meet the challenges of aerospace development.

Pietro Cervellera, senior vice president of aerospace and defence at Altair, expressed his excitement about the collaboration, stating, “Meridian is a fantastic addition to ASAP, and we are eager to work together to push the envelope of innovation in the heavy-lift UAV sector. Our cutting-edge software and technical expertise will be instrumental in bringing the Corra and HERMES projects to fruition.”

Saïf-Deen Akanni, CEO and CTO of Meridian Flight Systems, spoke about the significance of the partnership, saying, “Joining ASAP is a major milestone in our mission to develop advanced UAV and hybrid power technologies. Altair’s top-tier software solutions and technical support will be vital in optimising the design and performance of the Corra UAV, while accelerating the progress of the HERMES system towards achieving airworthiness certification and operational readiness.”

The two companies will also collaborate on research initiatives, co-authoring papers and presenting their findings at industry conferences. Besides Corra UAV and HERMES projects, they aim to contribute to the broader field of aerospace innovation, with a focus on data-driven research and analysis.
