Servotech Powers Airside EV Operations At Bengaluru Airport

Green aviation push, Bengaluru airport to get 24/7 EV charging hub for airside buses, in partnership with Servotech Renewable.

Servotech Renewable Power System Ltd is set to install a high-capacity electric vehicle (EV) charging hub at Kempegowda International Airport, following an order from Bangalore International Airport Ltd (BIAL).

This system will comprise 10 ultra-fast direct current (DC) chargers, each rated at 240 kilowatts (kW), providing a total installed capacity of 2.4 megawatts (MW) for airside operations.

Once operational, the installation will be India’s first and largest EV charging facility for airside airport operations.

Following its commissioning, the hub will support electric buses responsible for moving passengers between terminals and aircraft.

With faster charging speeds, the system is intended to reduce downtime, improve operational efficiency, and cut transport-related emissions, BIAL noted.

To ensure the infrastructure operates effectively, the hub will be located within the airport grounds and remain functional around the clock. Servotech will undertake the complete scope of work, encompassing supply, installation, testing, commissioning, and a five-year maintenance period.

As part of its ongoing commitment to sustainability, Kempegowda International Airport is implementing green infrastructure initiatives into its daily operations.

Additionally, it supports Karnataka’s ambition of becoming a carbon-negative state, particularly by promoting the use of clean transportation technologies in public infrastructure.

Commenting on the development, Sarika Bhatia, Director at Servotech Renewable Power System Ltd, stated that the project offers a practical opportunity to help reduce emissions at one of India’s busiest airports through the deployment of EV charging systems.

This partnership reflects Servotech’s ongoing participation in India’s EV infrastructure landscape. Following its work with oil marketing firms, the company is now venturing into EV infrastructure for airports.

Looking ahead, the installation is expected to curb emissions from ground transport operations at the airport. Officials suggest that the project could serve as a reference model for similar EV infrastructure developments at other major transport hubs across the country.
