Premium audio gets bigger as Harman completes the buying of Sound United for $350 million, adding iconic brands like Bowers & Wilkins, Denon, and Marantz to its portfolio.
Samsung subsidiary Harman has finalised its $350 million purchase of Sound United, the former audio division of Masimo. First announced in May 2025, the deal expands Harman’s portfolio with a range of premium audio brands.
The acquisition brings renowned names such as Bowers & Wilkins, Denon, Marantz, Definitive Technology, and Polk Audio under Harman’s ownership. Other brands in the Sound United portfolio, including HEOS, Classé, and Boston Acoustics, are also included. These join Harman’s existing audio brands, including JBL and Harman Kardon, which Samsung acquired in 2016 when it bought Harman for $8 billion.
Following the acquisition, Sound United will operate as a standalone business within Harman’s lifestyle division. The approach is designed to preserve the distinct identities of each brand and maintain their loyal customer bases.
Dave Rogers, Harman’s lifestyle lead, said that Sound United’s brands reflect a strong commitment to sound, innovation, and quality aligned with Harman’s values. He added that the acquisition would create growth opportunities and strengthen Harman’s strategy to build on its success.
Industry analysts note that the deal strengthens Harman’s presence in the high-end consumer audio market and complements its existing product lines. By integrating Sound United, Harman gains both scale and a more diverse range of offerings across speakers, headphones, and audio systems.
