Bosch Brings Third-Generation SiC Chips to India’s EV Market

The new semiconductor platform promises higher efficiency, longer range, and more compact power electronics for next-generation electric vehicles.

Bosch has introduced its third-generation Silicon Carbide (SiC) semiconductor technology in India, strengthening its focus on electric mobility and advanced power electronics for the country’s growing EV market.

The new SiC chips are designed to improve the efficiency of electric powertrains by minimizing energy losses during power conversion. This helps automakers extend vehicle range, optimize battery performance, and reduce energy consumption without increasing battery size.

As India’s EV industry moves toward large-scale adoption, manufacturers are looking for technologies that can enhance performance while keeping costs under control. Bosch says its latest SiC platform delivers around 20% higher performance than previous generations, enabling more efficient and capable electric vehicles.

SiC semiconductors are a key component in EV inverters, which regulate the flow of energy between the battery and electric motor. Compared to conventional silicon-based devices, SiC technology supports higher operating voltages and temperatures while reducing heat generation. This allows for more compact power electronics, lower cooling requirements, and simpler vehicle architectures.

Sandeep Nelamangala, Joint Managing Director of Bosch Limited and President of Bosch Mobility India, said improvements in range, charging efficiency, and operating costs are essential for accelerating EV adoption in the country.

Bosch has already supplied more than 60 million SiC chips globally and continues to invest in semiconductor development and production. Markus Heyn, Member of the Bosch Board of Management and Chairman of Bosch Mobility, said the latest generation of SiC semiconductors will help manufacturers develop higher-performing and more energy-efficient electric vehicles.

With this launch, Bosch aims to support India’s sustainable mobility goals while helping automakers build cost-effective EVs powered by next-generation semiconductor technology.
