Advantest Collaborates With OpenLight

This partnership will play a huge role in making a strong silicon photonics ecosystem

Advantest Corporation and silicon photonics innovator OpenLight have announced a strategic collaboration to develop scalable, high-volume testing solutions for silicon photonics devices.

The partnership comes at a time when artificial intelligence (AI) and high-performance computing (HPC) workloads are driving unprecedented demand for faster, more energy-efficient data transmission within data centers. Silicon photonics and co-packaged optics technologies are increasingly being adopted to meet these requirements by delivering higher bandwidth, lower latency, and improved power efficiency compared to traditional electrical interconnects.

Under the collaboration, Advantest and OpenLight will work together to address the complex testing challenges associated with high-volume manufacturing of electro-optical devices, including optical engines used in advanced networking and AI infrastructure. The companies aim to establish a comprehensive end-to-end test solution that supports scalable production while maintaining performance, reliability, and cost efficiency.

By combining Advantest’s expertise in semiconductor testing with OpenLight’s capabilities in heterogeneous silicon photonics integration and custom Photonic Application-Specific Integrated Circuit (PASIC) design, the partnership seeks to streamline manufacturing processes and accelerate the deployment of optical connectivity solutions across data centers and high-speed networking environments.

This partnership will play a huge role in making a strong silicon photonics ecosystem. This system will let manufacturers scale production of advanced optical devices as demand for AI-driven computing infrastructure continues to rise globally.

“We work closely with our foundry partners to design and manufacture innovative PASICs to support the advancement of AI technology,” said Adam Carter, CEO of OpenLight. “We are pleased to collaborate with Advantest as part of this ecosystem. Their leadership in test will allow us to offer sophisticated solutions that deliver customer value and address demands for high-volume manufacturing.”

“As we broaden our silicon photonics capabilities, we are pleased to partner with OpenLight to accelerate end-to-end semiconductor technology development,” said Doug Lefever, representative director and group CEO of Advantest Corporation. “As AI and high-performance computing continue to drive demand for greater bandwidth and energy efficiency, this partnership enables us to innovate test solutions that help customers scale production and help bring next-generation photonic technologies to market faster, meeting the needs of the AI era.”
