Tata Power and the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) have signed a Master Research Agreement (MRA) to establish a long-term strategic partnership focused on scaling and commercialising lab-scale innovations in next-generation energy technologies and advanced clean energy solutions.
The agreement was signed at the IIT Bombay campus by Dr. Praveer Sinha, CEO and Managing Director, Tata Power, and Prof. Shrikrishna V. Kulkarni, Dean (Research & Development), IIT Bombay, in the presence of Prof. Shireesh Kedare, Director, IIT Bombay.
Under the partnership, the two organisations will jointly develop solutions across smart grids, power electronics, energy storage, electric mobility, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence for power systems, digital grid technologies, carbon capture, and the circular economy. The collaboration aims to translate advanced research from laboratories into scalable, industry-ready technologies.
Dr. Praveer Sinha said the partnership will combine IIT Bombay’s research capabilities with Tata Power’s experience in deploying energy solutions at scale, supporting the development of a more resilient, secure, intelligent, and sustainable power ecosystem in India.
Prof. Shireesh Kedare said the collaboration will help bridge the gap between scientific research and deployable technologies, while accelerating the development of indigenous solutions to strengthen India’s energy security and support decarbonisation.
