Michael Robbins Named New SIA President and CEO

Michael Robbins will lead SIA from October as the U.S. semiconductor industry focuses on strengthening domestic chip capabilities and global competitiveness.

The Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) has appointed Michael Robbins as its next president and CEO, effective October 1, 2026. He will succeed John Neuffer, who announced his departure earlier this year after nearly 12 years at the helm. Neuffer will remain with SIA through September to support the transition.

Robbins currently serves as president and CEO of the Association for Uncrewed Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI), a trade body representing companies working in uncrewed systems, robotics, and autonomous technologies across commercial and defence sectors. He joined AUVSI in 2020 after previously serving as its chief advocacy officer.

His career includes extensive experience in government affairs and policy. Robbins co-founded consulting firm Intrepid and served as its chief operating officer. He earlier worked as managing director of government and public affairs at the Air Line Pilots Association, International, overseeing aviation safety, security, government affairs, and communications. Before that, he spent about a decade working for the late U.S. Representative John D. Dingell of Michigan, including as chief of staff. Robbins holds degrees from the University of Michigan and Georgetown University and currently serves as an officer in the U.S. Navy Reserve.

Robbins will lead SIA at a time when semiconductors are increasingly central to artificial intelligence, advanced manufacturing, healthcare, communications, and national security. His appointment is expected to bring a strong policy and advocacy focus to the association as the U.S. seeks to strengthen domestic semiconductor capabilities and maintain its global technology leadership.

Dr. Lisa Su, AMD chair and CEO and 2026 SIA board chair, said Robbins has the experience needed to advance policies supporting the U.S. semiconductor ecosystem, innovation, and industry growth.

Robbins said he plans to work with industry and government stakeholders to strengthen America’s competitive position in semiconductor technology. Neuffer also welcomed the appointment, saying Robbins has the background to effectively represent the industry during a critical period.
