Japan’s Horiba Aims to Double Indian Revenue on Semiconductor Surge

Precision equipment leader targets expanded local manufacturing and chip partnerships as India’s technology ecosystem matures. 

Japanese precision equipment manufacturer Horiba has announced plans to double its annual revenue in India within five years, driven by expansions across semiconductors, healthcare, and lab-grown diamond technologies.

The company currently generates approximately $98 million (around ₹927 crore) annually from its Indian operations, which span energy and environment, bio-healthcare, and materials and semiconductors.

Horiba dominates the global market for Mass Flow Controllers (MFCs)—which precisely regulate chemical gases during chip fabrication—holding a market share of nearly 60 per cent. As domestic chip manufacturing takes off, the firm intends to collaborate directly with major players such as Tata and Foxconn. Executive Director Dan Horiba noted that the company is primed to roll out advanced products as local semiconductor fabrication plants (fabs) come online.

Beyond its core MFC offerings, Horiba is broadening its semiconductor portfolio to include specialized inspection tools, alongside niche process-control equipment like pressure sensors and vaporisers.

To bolster its technological edge, Horiba acquired Pristine Deep Tech earlier this year. The acquisition centers on advanced R&D for engineered diamond growth, a technology that holds strong potential for both the lab-grown diamond industry and next-generation semiconductor manufacturing.

Senior Corporate Officer Rajeev Gautam highlighted that establishing a robust domestic supply chain will be crucial as local demand expands. Having invested roughly $65 million in the country to date—with 40 per cent of its local sales currently manufactured on-site—Horiba is actively evaluating further capital expenditure, primarily earmarked for the healthcare and semiconductor sectors.
