Tata Electronics, Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya partner to develop semiconductor talent

Tata Electronics is establishing India’s first commercial semiconductor Fab in Dholera, Gujarat

Tata Electronics has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya (GSV) to collaborate on skilling and talent development for India’s growing semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem.

The partnership will focus on developing industry-ready talent and strengthening capabilities in areas supporting semiconductor fabrication facilities and associated infrastructure. The collaboration will cover semiconductor facility engineering and infrastructure systems, project management, and logistics and supply chain.

As part of the partnership, Tata Electronics will work with GSV to develop academic curricula, joint certification programmes, and industry-oriented skilling initiatives. Tata Electronics partners L&T EduTech and Jacobs Solutions will also participate in the collaboration and provide subject matter expertise.

The programmes are expected to equip students and professionals with practical and specialised skills required for Fab construction and operations, addressing the growing demand for talent across engineering, infrastructure, project execution, manufacturing, and supply chain functions.

Dr. Randhir Thakur, CEO and MD, Tata Electronics, said that semiconductor Fabs require specialised expertise across multiple engineering and infrastructure disciplines. He added that developing a strong domestic talent pipeline will be essential as India builds a globally competitive semiconductor ecosystem.

Prof. (Dr.) Manoj Choudhary, Vice Chancellor, Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya, said the partnership will help the university expand its academic and research offerings into emerging infrastructure and semiconductor-related domains while providing students with greater exposure to industry requirements.

Tata Electronics is establishing India’s first commercial semiconductor Fab in Dholera, Gujarat, with an investment of $11 billion. The facility is expected to serve customers across automotive, mobile, IoT, artificial intelligence, aerospace, defence, and other strategic sectors.

The collaboration with GSV is aimed at strengthening the workforce required to support the development and operation of such advanced semiconductor manufacturing facilities in India.
