L&T Semiconductor, Tata Electronics Partner to Expand Chip Manufacturing in India

The collaboration will focus on products for automotive, industrial, communications, security, and intelligent-edge applications

L&T Semiconductor Technologies Limited (LTSCT) and Tata Electronics have entered into a strategic partnership to expand indigenous semiconductor manufacturing in India and develop chip products for global customers.

The partnership will combine LTSCT’s fabless semiconductor design capabilities with Tata Electronics’ semiconductor fabrication, packaging, and testing capabilities. The companies will jointly explore fabrication and packaging opportunities for LTSCT’s existing and future semiconductor products.

The collaboration will focus on products for automotive, industrial, communications, security, and intelligent-edge applications. The companies will also work on optimising chip designs for specific fabrication and packaging processes to enable efficient manufacturing at scale.

Under the partnership, LTSCT and Tata Electronics will evaluate opportunities across Tata Electronics’ range of semiconductor process technologies and packaging solutions. This will include design-to-fabrication optimisation aimed at improving manufacturability, quality, and production scalability.

Dr Sandeep Kumar, Chief Executive, L&T Semiconductor Technologies, said the ability to industrialise semiconductor designs through advanced packaging and manufacturing will become increasingly important for semiconductor leadership.

Tata Electronics CEO and MD Dr Randhir Thakur said the partnership combines LTSCT’s fabless design and engineering expertise with Tata Electronics’ capabilities in semiconductor manufacturing, packaging, and testing.

The collaboration is aligned with the Government of India’s “Manufacture in India – for India and for the World” vision and the Semicon 2.0 focus on developing the domestic semiconductor ecosystem and increasing value addition within the country.

The companies will also explore advancing packaging technologies, manufacturing processes, and quality systems as part of their efforts to strengthen India’s semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem.
