KOTRA Drives Korean Semiconductor Supplier Push Into India

Korean semiconductor suppliers are seeking early partnerships with Indian chipmakers as $8.4 billion in subsidies accelerate domestic manufacturing and packaging capacity.

Korean semiconductor materials, components, and equipment companies are seeking early supplier positions in India’s expanding semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem, with KOTRA helping them connect with local manufacturers and buyers.

India is committing about $8.4 billion in subsidies through the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) to build its domestic semiconductor base. Of the 12 approved semiconductor projects, nine focus on back-end processes such as packaging and testing, creating opportunities for suppliers of packaging materials, assembly and test equipment, and components.

KOTRA is particularly targeting Korean small and mid-sized companies, including those supplying mature-node semiconductor equipment, materials, and components for applications such as automotive and home appliances. India’s semiconductor market is projected to grow from $54 billion in 2025 to $110 billion by 2030.

At Semicon India 2026, more than 600 companies from 52 countries participated, with South Korea operating a dedicated pavilion. 15 Korean companies showcased back-end equipment, packaging materials, and power semiconductors, conducting 80 one-on-one consultations with 40 Indian buyers. Tata Electronics, Kaynes, CG Semi, and IndiaChip were among the Indian companies involved.

KOTRA held the Korea-India Semiconductor Partnership Week from September 16–19 alongside the event in New Delhi, including seminars, exhibitions and industry discussions. A Korea-India Semiconductor Roundtable co-hosted with IESA brought together about 60 representatives to discuss supply-chain cooperation and investment incentives.

Korean exports to India reached $16.8 billion during January–August 2026, up 30.8% year-on-year, with semiconductor demand linked to India’s AI and data-centre investments identified as a contributing factor.

“Now is the time to partner with local players and prepare to secure an early position in the market, as India emerges as a global semiconductor production hub,” said Kang Kyung-sung, President of KOTRA.

KOTRA plans to connect identified purchasing and investment requirements with additional Korean suppliers through its Global Partnering programme.
