Melexis estimates that around 22 million two-wheelers are produced in India annually.
Melexis has opened a new office in India as the sensing and driving solutions company looks to expand its presence in the country’s two-wheeler, vehicle electrification, solar and smart energy markets.
The company has been serving Indian customers for more than 15 years, primarily through distribution partners. Melexis said its sales in India have grown by more than 30% annually over the past decade. The new office marks a shift towards a dedicated local operation aimed at providing closer customer and application support.
The company recorded a 30% year-on-year increase in automotive sales in India during the first half of 2026, with the segment accounting for 46% of its local revenue.
Melexis is also targeting India’s high-volume two-wheeler market, where increasing electrification and electronic controls are driving demand for sensors and motor drivers. The company estimates that around 22 million two-wheelers are produced in India annually.
Government requirements for electronic fuel injection in two-wheelers have also increased demand for sensing technologies, while the push towards electrification of two- and three-wheelers is creating opportunities for current and position sensors.
The company is also expanding its focus beyond automotive applications. In the smart energy segment, Melexis is targeting India’s planned deployment of around 250 million smart meters with its 3D magnetic sensor technology for magnetic anti-tampering applications.
“Entering the market at this stage gives us a distinct competitive advantage,” said Varun Deshmukh, Sales Director, Melexis India. He said the company has developed solutions based on the current requirements of Indian customers and is targeting a 30% to 40% market share in key segments such as energy meters.
The new India facility spans 340 sq m and will initially house a local team focused on supporting motor drivers and sensor applications. Melexis plans to hire 15 professionals over the coming years, with a focus on software, embedded systems and IC design capabilities.
The local team will also leverage India’s engineering talent pool and technical universities as it expands its application support and customer engagement in the country.
