Six companies have been shortlisted by the Indian Government to help promote electronic manufacturing across the country. The nationwide marketing campaign is to be taken care of by McKinsey, KPMG, BCG, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Accenture and Brain & Company. As the idea to private partnership was conceived, almost 10 consulting firms showed initial interest.
One of these six companies will help the Indian government promote the nation as an attractive prospect for e-manufacturing. It will be associated with leading campaigns and making India a beneficiary for countries all over the globe. Foreign investment will be the main aim of this campaign.
One of the top officials from the Dept of Electronics and Information Technology said that since the project is a big one, it would take at least 3-4 months of initial technical evaluation after which one company will be selected for the job, and in two months time they will select one company to do the job. The official who didn’t want to be named was getting interviewed by Business Line.
Kapil Sibal, minister of Communications and Information Technology, met head of chamber of commerce and ambassadors of different countries concerning investments in electronics manufacturing under ESDM scheme. Representatives from UK, US, Japan, Germany, Taiwan and South Korea are stated to have shown interest. This is expected to create an annual turnover of $440 billion along with a $100 billion investment and an employment gain of 28 million by the year 2020.
