Monday, December 15, 2014: Emphasising on the importance of domestically manufactured electronics, Consumer Electronics and Appliances Manufacturers Association (CEAMA) concluded their 35th Annual Function. CEAMA felicitated Soon Kwon, managing director, LG Electronics India, with the ‘Man of Electronics Award’, an award that celebrates all-round contribution to the Indian Electronics and Appliances Industry through the years.

The event was graced by Rao Inderjit Singh, minister of state (independent charge) for planning and defence, R. N Dhoot, member of parliament, Anirudh Dhoot, president, CEAMA, Manish Sharma, president elect, CEAMA and other prominent industry leaders.

The domestic consumer electronics industry in India is already poised to soon become the fifth largest consumer durables market in the world. The power packed session saw key industry leaders and members of CEAMA discuss and work towards building a strong brand for the industry globally, focus on priority areas and resolve issues through a collaborative approach. The association effectively promotes the growth of manufacturing by bringing the manufacturers at a common platform to discuss the way forward in the sector of CE & HA. Keeping in line with this, CEAMA promised support for ‘Make in India’ campaigm through, which PM Narendra Modi aims to strengthen the global footprint, manufacturing and investments for India. The industry emphasised on coming together and start looking at home-grown sources for components and raw materials leading to finished product, as this will pave the way for indigenous manufacturing.

In his address at the event, Rao Inderjit Singh, said, “India has the potential to develop and manufacture electronics hardware for the global markets and gain higher global share besides meeting country’s future requirement. Advancements in the electronics sector also contributes in strengthening country’s defence sector. The way forward for electronics industry is a healthy relationship between the government and the industry to put India in a strong, dominant position in the global electronics map.”

CEAMA officials shared that the government has always been supportive of the growth and development of the consumer electronics sector and has initiated several initiatives for the development of sector like the National Policy on Electronics (NPE). One of the most important objectives of NPE is to achieve a turnover of about $ 400 Billion by 2020, involving investment of about USD 100 Billion and employment to around 28 million by 2020. Going forward also, they predicted a tremendous growth for the industry with ‘Make in India’ campaign paving the way forward for indigenous manufacturing encouraging the growth of the sector as well as the country.

Sharing his views, Anirudh Dhoot, said, “We, at CEAMA have made efforts to promote the growth and development of electronic hardware industry in the country, which is expected to grow by 40 percent in the next 2-3 years. This growth is attributed to the tremendous work done by the industry and the support extended by the government through various initiatives.” He further added that “I would like to congratulate Mr. Manish Sharma, Managing Director, Panasonic India and South Asia, for being elected as the CEAMA President.”
