India Skills, an initiative of the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship. NSDC, through its initiative, has been leading the country’s participation at World Skills International competitions since 2011.

The key objective of India Skills Competition is to promulgate skills in the society and motivate the youth to pursue vocational education.
“Vocational training is an undermined skill development course in the country. Unlike other regions where vocational training has its prominence, Indians opt more for professional training that too without proper knowledge of the scopes and opportunities available with the degree”, said Rakesh Mathur, Sr.Vice President, ESSCI.
Ever since the govt has formed a separate ministry for skill development, there has been enhanced focus on both skill and vocational curriculum. Looking at today’s under-informed generation of graduates, the concept of NSDC has been created.
Mr. Mathur surmised, ‘The plan is to deliver outcome based training. The numbers trained and curriculum set follow the industrial demand, i.e, completely based on the area of investment and facilities provided by the manufacturing industries, so that the participants can cater to the desired in-demand services”.
People are still not much aware of vocation and of such kind of programs. With the new initiatives taken by the government lot of investments are coming to the Indian subcontinent which will undoubtedly lead to new jobs.
ESSCI,who mainly deal with embedded designs, got associated with the National Skill Olympics since last year and looking at the 44th session in 2017. “We train our candidates for the World Skill Olympics but this year the government opened the gates for the masses so that the pyramid can be narrowed down by online screening test and at the same time through rigorous testing procedure”, said Mr. Mathur.
He also notified that the top 8 selected candidates will compete against each other in the India Skill finals which will be conducted on the National Youth Day. A whole week, from 12 – 18th August, it will be celebrated at Pragati Maidan,New Delhi, while 15th – 17th August remains to be the competition days.
August 15 is the formal inauguration day of the mega event which shall be done by our honorable Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi.
The final three candidates after competing against each other shall be trained for nearly an year keeping in mind the world skill requirements and ultimately only one shall represent India at the end.
“Through such events we want youths to be aware that skills can take them a long way. Only the properly trained youths can put into success ambitious projects like Digital India and Make in India”, opined Mr. Mathur.
