Continuing its efforts to save electricity, the Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation (JMRC) has decided to replace all sodium lights at Vivek Vihar stationwith light-emitting diode (LED) lights.
This would help JMRC to save Rs 8 lakh per month. At present, 56 kilowatt (kWh) is consumed at this metro station, once the LED lights are installed, the consumption will be 26 kWh .
According to TOI, a JMRC official said in an statement that they have invited tenders for the same . The estimate cost to install these lights will be Rs 14 Lakh. The JMRC is setting an example for other government departments to save energy.
The JMRC makes major expenditure on purchasing the electricity and efforts are continuously made to reduce the consumption. The Metro also has decided to set up rooftop solar panels at eight elevated stations on its 9.25-km-long corridor between Mansarovar and Chandpole.
