Advancing smart logistics, Abu Dhabi launches first autonomous delivery vehicle trial in Masdar City under SASC supervision.
The Integrated Transport Centre (Abu Dhabi Mobility), under the supervision of the Smart and Autonomous Systems Council (SASC), has launched the emirate’s first trial operation for autonomous delivery vehicles. The pilot programme, conducted in partnership with the Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO), involves collaboration with K2 and EMX, the logistics arm of 7X. The milestone includes the issuance of Abu Dhabi’s first official licence plate for a self-driving delivery vehicle.
The autonomous vehicles, developed by K2 subsidiary Autogo, use advanced artificial intelligence and smart mobility technologies to navigate urban streets and deliver orders without human intervention. The trial is currently taking place in Masdar City and is expected to pave the way for full-scale commercial operations across Abu Dhabi.
The initiative reflects Abu Dhabi Mobility’s regulatory role in managing autonomous transport and supports the emirate’s wider vision for sustainable and connected mobility. Abu Dhabi aims for 25 per cent of all trips to be made via smart transport solutions by 2040, building on earlier projects such as autonomous taxis.
According to Dr Abdulla Hamad AlGhfeli, Acting Director General of Abu Dhabi Mobility, the launch represents a key milestone in creating a smart, sustainable transport system. He emphasised its role in reducing emissions and congestion while improving quality of life.
Tariq Al Wahedi, Group CEO of 7X, said the initiative demonstrates a commitment to advancing smart logistics that are faster, safer and more sustainable, aligned with the UAE’s digital and green economy goals.
Autogo plans to extend operations beyond Masdar City in the coming months, with broader partnerships and commercial deployment. The initiative is also aligned with the Smart and Autonomous Vehicle Industries (SAVI) cluster, which aims to develop smart infrastructure and localise autonomous systems in Abu Dhabi.
