Promising a leap in power efficiency for cars, factories, data centres and strengthening the US supply chain, iDEAL’s SuperQ MOSFETs debut at Polar Semiconductor’s foundry.
iDEAL Semiconductor has confirmed that its breakthrough SuperQ™ silicon power devices are now in full production at Polar Semiconductor in Minnesota, the United States. The move marks the commercial rollout of the first major advance in silicon MOSFET design in more than two decades, says the company.
SuperQ technology uses a patented asymmetrical RESURF structure that delivers dramatic efficiency gains. Compared to legacy silicon, it achieves up to 2.7 times lower resistance and reduces switching losses by as much as 2.1 times compared to rival devices. These improvements make it well-suited for demanding high-performance applications.
Moreover, the devices combine ultra-low conduction and switching losses with proven silicon reliability at junction temperatures up to 175°C. Target markets include automotive electrification, industrial automation, AI data centres, renewable energy, telecoms and consumer power systems.
The production is taking place at Polar Semiconductor’s high-volume 200mm facility.iDEAL’s first products, 150 V and 200 V MOSFETs, entered production in July. Higher-voltage 300 V and 400 V variants are next in line.
Polar is reportedly the only majority US-owned foundry dedicated to high-voltage and power semiconductors. With over 50 years of automotive production heritage, the facility is IATF 16949 certified and recognised for its zero-defect manufacturing.
Meanwhile, Polar is currently doubling its capacity and investing in advanced technologies to meet growing demand and support strategic partners such as iDEAL. The expansion aims to strengthen the US supply base for power electronics and ensure resilience in critical industries.
“Polar is among the world’s top-tier power semiconductor foundries,” said Mark Granahan, CEO and co-founder of iDEAL Semiconductor. “Their focus on high-voltage processes and commitment to capacity growth make them an ideal partner for our SuperQ roadmap.”
Polar Semiconductor President and COO Surya Iyer added: “Together, we are enabling the next leap in power efficiency while building a secure and scalable manufacturing platform.”
