Amara Raja, Nuvation Energy Partner to Localise High-Voltage BMS in India

The alliance supports India’s battery storage ambitions by localising high-voltage battery management technology.

Amara Raja Advanced Cell Technologies (ARACT), a subsidiary of Amara Raja Energy & Mobility Limited, has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with US-based Nuvation Energy to explore the localisation and large-scale production of high-voltage battery management systems (BMS) in India.

The agreement was signed during the Twelfth India Energy Storage Week (IESW) 2026 in New Delhi. Initially, the partnership will focus on developing battery management systems for grid-scale energy storage, commercial and industrial (C&I) applications, and renewable energy projects.

As part of the collaboration, Amara Raja will assess the deployment of Nuvation Energy’s 1,500V battery management system technology for the Indian market. The companies aim to combine Nuvation Energy’s expertise in high-voltage BMS design with Amara Raja’s manufacturing capabilities to strengthen domestic production of advanced battery management technologies.

The initiative comes as India expands battery energy storage deployments to support its goal of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel-based power capacity by 2030. High-performance battery management systems are essential for monitoring, protecting, and optimising large-scale energy storage installations, ensuring operational safety and reliability.

The partnership complements Amara Raja’s broader investments in lithium-ion battery manufacturing. The company is investing ₹9,500 crore to establish a 16 GWh lithium-ion gigafactory in Telangana, supported by research and development activities at its ePositive Energy Labs. It is also setting up a 10 GWh battery energy storage system (BESS) manufacturing facility, which is expected to begin operations later this year.

Vikash Venkataramana, Chief Product Officer at Amara Raja Advanced Cell Technologies, said battery management systems are among the most sophisticated components in modern energy storage solutions. He noted that the collaboration with Nuvation Energy will provide access to globally proven technology that can be adapted and manufactured for Indian requirements, supporting the country’s clean energy transition.

Michael Worry, Chief Executive Officer of Nuvation Energy, said India is rapidly becoming a major energy storage market and that developing indigenous battery management capabilities will be crucial for building a safe, reliable, and scalable energy storage ecosystem.
