Tata Electronics’ Assam Chip Plant Gets ₹140.44 Billion Government Support

The incentive package will back the state’s first semiconductor manufacturing facility, capable of producing 48 million chip packages daily.

The upcoming ₹270 billion semiconductor manufacturing facility being developed by Tata Electronics at Jagiroad in Assam will receive a combined ₹140.44 billion in financial incentives from the Central and Assam governments, the state Assembly was informed on Thursday.

Responding to a question raised by Raijor Dal MLA Akhil Gogoi, Assam’s Minister for Industries, Commerce and Public Enterprises, Bimal Borah, said the incentive package has been approved to support the establishment of the state’s first semiconductor manufacturing plant in Morigaon district.

According to the minister, the Central government will contribute ₹102.55 billion under its semiconductor incentive programme, while the Assam government has committed an additional ₹37.89 billion to strengthen the project’s long-term viability.

The semiconductor facility is expected to become a major industrial hub for the Northeast, with the potential to create more than 27,000 employment opportunities. Of these, around 15,000 are expected to be direct jobs, making it one of the region’s largest employment-generating manufacturing projects.

Once operational, the plant will have the capacity to manufacture up to 48 million semiconductor chips per day. The facility will use advanced semiconductor packaging technologies, including Flip Chip and Integrated System in Package (ISIP), to cater to the growing demand for semiconductor components across industries.

The project is part of India’s broader push to strengthen domestic semiconductor manufacturing and reduce dependence on imports while building a robust electronics supply chain.
