Amazon Reaches Its Goal Of Deploying 10,000 EVs In Its India Delivery Fleet

Amid this optimistic scenario, the logistics industry continues to face challenges like limited charging infrastructure and range anxiety.

Boosting in its sustainability efforts, the e-commerce giant Amazon has now said it has crossed its aim of deploying 10,000 electric vehicles (EVs) in its delivery fleet in India. According to the company, they have expanded their delivery network to include major metropolitan areas such as Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru, and they have reached remote destinations from Leh to Gangtok. This remarkable service now spans an impressive 500 cities across India.

With a strong commitment to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2040, Amazon has developed custom electric vehicles in partnership with leaders like Volvo Eicher, Tata Motors, and Altigreen. However, Abhinav Singh, vice president of operations, notes that the logistics industry still faces challenges like limited charging infrastructure and range anxiety. He is eager to collaborate with the government and industry partners to overcome these obstacles and drive sustainable solutions.

The Climate Pledge’s Laneshift Initiative collaboration brings together industry leaders like Amazon, Ashok Leyland, Billion-E, and ChargeZone to test long-range electric heavy trucks on the 350 km Bengaluru-Chennai highway. This route is a critical corridor for freight movement in South India. This marks India’s first e-commerce-led test of long-range electric heavy trucks, showcasing the feasibility of electrifying key freight routes.

Amazon and The Climate Pledge have created new job opportunities in India by uniting vehicle manufacturers with charging infrastructure providers. This collaboration with Delivery Service Providers, fleet operators, and finance providers supports local economies and paves the way for a sustainable future.

By collaborating with fintech firms such as Risewise, VidyutTech, cKers, and Turn0, alongside NBFCs, lending institutions, and the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI), Amazon is enabling delivery service providers and associates to overcome financial barriers associated with adopting electric vehicles (EVs). The company’s partnership with government programs like Shoonya, an initiative for zero-pollution delivery vehicles, and NITI Aayog’s e-FAST (Electric Freight Accelerator for Sustainable Transport) further aligns its goals with national sustainability and clean energy objectives.
