Ather Introduces Fast-Charging Fee For Grid Usage From August 1st

  • The charges for fast charging through Ather’s grid network will be Rs 1 per minute
  • Each fast-charging session will be limited to up to 80% battery capacity

Starting from August 1st, Ather will implement a charge of Rs. 1/minute plus GST for charging sessions in Maharashtra, Delhi, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu. Unlike conventional methods, Ather’s fast charger fee will be time-based rather than electricity consumed.

Ather made this decision because they want more people to use public charging for electric vehicles. While the Ather Grid was initially free since 2018, the company observed increasing issues like overcrowding and some owners leaving their scooters plugged in for too long, hindering riders’ convenience. To resolve these challenges, they have introduced a charging fee for usage of its Grid network.

Ather has introduced a cut-off limit, restricting fast charging sessions to 80% battery capacity. They claim that this measure ensures improved charger availability and encourages owners to use the charging points more efficiently. As a result, Ather expects more sessions at each charger and increased usage of the Grid network.

Owners of Ather 450 Gen 1 and Gen 1.5 electric scooters, as well as those who bought an Ather last December, will still have free access to the Ather Grid until the end of 2023, as promised.
