Uniting research and innovation, C-DOT and IIT Gandhinagar join forces to advance indigenous telecom and cybersecurity technologies.

The Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT), the research and development (R&D) arm of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Ministry of Communications, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Technology, Gandhinagar (IIT-GN) to set up a Centre of Excellence (CoE).
The centre will focus on advanced research and innovation in telecommunications and cybersecurity. It will serve as a hub for both fundamental and applied research. It will also include patent filing, academic exchange, and product development, besides training and skill development programmes.
Additionally, the CoE will support incubation, mentoring, and collaboration with start-ups and industry to build a robust innovation ecosystem for India’s telecom sector.
According to DoT, the collaboration aims to combine C-DOT’s technical expertise with IIT Gandhinagar’s academic and research strengths to develop indigenous technologies in key areas such as mobile communications, quantum communication, artificial intelligence (AI), and advanced telecom applications.
The MoU was signed by Dr Rajkumar Upadhyay, CEO of C-DOT, and Prof Rajat Moona, Director of IIT Gandhinagar, in the presence of senior officials, faculty members, and students.
Speaking at the signing, Dr Upadhyay said the CoE would create a collaborative environment that accelerates innovation and intellectual property creation in next-generation telecom technologies.
He noted that the initiative supports the national vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat and Viksit Bharat, promoting India’s emergence as a global technology leader.
Prof Moona highlighted the importance of self-reliance in digital and communication technologies, stressing that cybersecurity and indigenous development are crucial for national growth and security.
He added that the partnership would leverage emerging technologies to drive innovation and strengthen local capabilities.
