Ciena Secures Optical Gear Deal From Constl

Constl, a subsidiary of Space World Group, will deploy Ciena’s optical networking equipment for high-speed Metro Area and National Long Distance connectivity across India.

Constl, a company under the umbrella of the New Delhi-based Space World Group, announced on Monday its plans to implement Ciena’s optical networking equipment. This deployment aims to provide high-speed connectivity services for both Metro Area (MAN) and National Long Distance (NLD) networks across India.

An essential element of this deal is Ciena’s 6500 Packet-Optical Platform, equipped with WaveLogic 5 Extreme (WL5e), which will be utilised. This technology will enable Constl to offer services up to 800G currently, with the capability to expand to 1.6T services using WaveLogic 6 (WL6) in the future. However, the two companies have yet to disclose the financial details of this deal.

In a statement, Ciena has claimed that their Reconfigurable Line System (RLS) photonic layer solution will provide Constl with scalability and resilience. This will assist Constl in adjusting to fluctuating traffic demands and aligning its network with its customers’ diverse needs. Constl will also implement Ciena’s Navigator Network Control Suite (NCS) to centrally monitor its multi-layer network infrastructure. This will boost the efficiency of operational tasks like planning, provisioning, and assurance

Sunil Kumar, CEO of Constl, has expressed that Ciena’s involvement will be pivotal in its growth, offering resilient connectivity to its customer base. Their primary objective is to establish a digital platform that guarantees exceptional customer experiences via a strong fiber infrastructure equipped with self-service functionalities. This will provide customers with improved network management and transparency. Presently, they are rolling out new fiber infrastructure within major metro areas, connecting various key points such as data centers, cable landing stations, telco PoPs, and other important CSP POPs, to boost India’s digital connectivity.

Amit Malik, Vice President at Ciena India, noted that Constl is at the forefront due to rising demand for data center interconnectivity and the expansion of technologies like 5G and generative AI. He added that Ciena’s optical technologies will provide Constl with additional capacity and network flexibility to address the ever-evolving needs in today’s interconnected environment.

A newly established subsidiary of the diversified conglomerate Space World Group, Constl delivers digital telecom infrastructure solutions within the B2B sector. Ciena works globally, providing solutions in networking systems, services, and softwares for the last three decades.
