Telecom industry body Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) has entered into partnership with World Trade Center India Services Council (WTCIS) for setting up of an ESDM (Electronic System Design and Manufacturing) Center of Excellence at the WTC-1A, World Trade Centre in Noida (Delhi/NCR).
The aim of the proposed Centre of Excellence (CoE) is to work towards the creation of human capital in the country and to bolster the innovation ecosystem relating to telecommunications, electronics, mobile and allied network industries.
Promoting ESDM ecosystem
Commenting on the collaboration with WTCIS, Rajan S Mathews, Director General, COAI, said, “We are excited to partner with the World Trade Center India Services Council, an international ecosystem of global business connectivity, iconic properties, and integrated trade services spread across several cities and countries. Our combined expertise in telecom, mobile and ESDM industries will go a long way in helping the industry, state and the country at large.”
The Uttar Pradesh Government has started the Mobile Open Exchange (MOX) Zone with WTC Noida. As part of it, the state government has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with WTC Noida for developing techzone that would act as a catalyst to enable growth of mobile and allied sectors in the state. MOX is a dedicated ecosystem for mobile sector, offering an integrated platform to manufacturers of mobile, research and development (R&D) and allied sectors.
According to the new National Policy on Electronics 2018 draft, ESDM industry in India is aimed to be a US$ 400 billion by 2025 with targeted production of one billion mobile handsets by 2025, valuing around US$ 190 billion (about Rs 13 lakh crore). This also include the target of 600 million mobile handsets, valuing US$ 110 billion, for the purpose of export.
