- Based on the report titled as ‘Making India 5G Ready’, the government is craeting the framework
- He also said that the eligibility criteria for bidders to participate in next auction of spectrum will be decided by the Government prior to the auction
Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said that the government is creating an enabling framework for deployment of affordable and secure 5G services in India. During the question hour in the Rajya Sabha he said that standards for IMT (International Mobile Telecommunications) 2020 which is also known as 5G technologies are being finalised.
While replying to a question on a company being banned by some countries due to security issues over 5G deployment, Prasad said that India being a sovereign country has every right to take a decision about the adoption and application of technology with market conditions and in accordance with security needs. He added that till date, the government has not allotted 5G spectrum to anyone nor denied to anyone.
Making India 5G Ready
He also said that an inter-ministerial High Level Forum for 5G India 2020 was constituted in September 2017 to look after the vision for 5G technology and recommend policy initiatives and action plans.
He added that the High Level Forum submitted its report titled as ‘Making India 5G Ready’ in August 2018. Based on the report, the government is creating an enabling framework for deployment of affordable and secure 5G services in India as per Prasad. He also said that the eligibility criteria for bidders to participate in next auction of spectrum will be decided by the Government prior to the auction.
