Revving up India’s EV revolution, MeitY and MHI are inviting innovators to submit proposals for advanced sub-systems, fueling homegrown tech and electrifying the future.
On Monday, the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and the Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) announced a joint call for proposals aimed at developing electric vehicle (EV) sub-systems at the Electronics Niketan in New Delhi.
The programme seeks to engage innovators, researchers, and industry players to enhance technological development and promote indigenous products within the EV ecosystem.
It is open to participation from research institutions, startups, and industry stakeholders. Selected proposals will receive financial support from MeitY, while MHI will assist with standardisation and testing processes. Interested parties can submit proposals through the MeitY website.
The initiative aims to develop local sub-systems primarily using indigenous components to ensure quality and cost-effectiveness while facilitating commercialisation in collaboration with relevant industries.
The focus is on developing EV charging infrastructure for AC and DC systems across various voltage and current levels, as well as electric drive trains that include motors and controllers. Additionally, it emphasises the need for battery management systems that prioritise safety and intelligent monitoring and aims to enhance telematics for improved communication and data exchange within EV systems.
Proposals achieving a technology readiness level (TRL) of 7 or higher will receive priority funding. This effort aligns with the Government of India’s ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ vision, reinforcing India’s position in the global EV sector.
Additionally, the proposal calls for advancements in functional safety and security to meet safety standards and enhance cybersecurity, along with the establishment of prototyping and testing centres to validate EV sub-systems.
Several dignitaries, including Shri S. Krishnan, Secretary of MeitY, Shri Bhuvnesh Kumar, Additional Secretary of MeitY, and Dr Hanif Qureshi, Additional Secretary of MHI, attended the event, along with key stakeholders from the EV industry.
