Joining hands with EPACK Durable, Hisense begins local manufacturing in India, promising to create jobs and expand AC production in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh, in a phased manner.
Hisense, a Chinese consumer electronics and home appliances company, has inaugurated its first manufacturing facility in India through a joint venture with Epack Manufacturing Technologies Private Limited (EMTPL), a subsidiary of Epack Durable Limited (EDL). The plant, located at Sri City in Andhra Pradesh, represents a major step in the company’s localisation strategy and aligns with the Government of India’s Make in India initiative.
Spread across a 10-acre (about 4.04-hectare) campus within EDL’s industrial park, the facility has been developed with an investment of over US$30 million. Commercial production is scheduled to begin in February 2026, with the plant initially dedicated to manufacturing room air conditioners (ACs). Once fully operational, it will account for all Hisense RAC output in India, reducing reliance on imports.
The project is being implemented in phases. Phase 1 will produce Hisense’s global air conditioner portfolio, including the F‑Series, Eco Series, Intelli Perla Series, and the upcoming Intelli Pro Series, with an annual installed capacity of 0.75 million units. Phase 2, expected in the second quarter of FY27, will expand production to washing machines, while Phase 3, planned for the third quarter of FY27, will add LED televisions.
According to the company, pilot production has already commenced, and the facility currently employs around 500 people. Recruitment is underway to increase the workforce to approximately 1500 over the next two years, covering roles in supply chain, finance, administration, and skilled manufacturing.
The plant will serve both domestic and export markets, enabling faster distribution and improved cost efficiency.
Meanwhile, Sri City, an integrated manufacturing special economic zone (SEZ), hosts several global and domestic firms, being seen as a strategic hub for large-scale production
