Hyundai And Kia Collaborate With Samsung For Vehicle-Home Connectivity Services

Hyundai and Kia aim to integrate living and mobility spaces; customers will remotely manage digital appliances using touch and voice commands through their cars’ infotainment systems.

Hyundai Motor Company and Kia Corporation announced a partnership with Samsung Electronics to develop Car-to-Home and Home-to-Car services, enhancing the link between residential and mobility environments. This collaboration allows Hyundai and Kia customers to control digital appliances remotely through their car’s infotainment systems, and vice versa, manage vehicle functions through AI speakers, TVs, and smartphone apps.

This integration is possible by combining Hyundai and Kia’s connected car services with Samsung’s Internet of Things (IoT) platform, SmartThings. The companies note that this will provide seamless connectivity experiences in everyday life. For instance, users can activate home appliances from their car or set up their vehicle’s environment before leaving home.

Hyundai and Kia’s Car-to-Home service enables users to select specific modes for different situations, minimizing device operation while driving. It includes location-based automatic operations, a touchscreen, and voice commands for convenience. Electric vehicle owners can also use SmartThings’ home energy management service to monitor and optimize energy usage between their home and vehicle.

Hyundai and Kia aim to offer these services globally by integrating their connected car platforms with Samsung SmartThings. They plan to develop stable infotainment systems and provide updates to existing vehicles via over-the-air (OTA) and USB.

Haeyoung Kwon, Vice President of Hyundai and Kia’s Infotainment Development Center expressed that this collaboration will enhance convenience in various fields and promise to accelerate technology development for global customers. Chanwoo Park, Executive Vice President at Samsung Electronics, emphasized the potential for enhanced customer experiences at home and in vehicles.

Previously, Hyundai and Kia offered limited Car-to-Home and Home-to-Car services in partnership with telecommunication and construction companies. This new partnership will expand the range of connectable devices, offering broader control over home appliances and vehicle functions.
