India–Netherlands Alliance Strengthens Semiconductor and Deep-Tech Cooperation 

Collaboration spanning chips, AI, and research talent aims to boost innovation ecosystems and secure trusted global technology supply chains. 

India and Netherlands have announced a strategic technology partnership aimed at expanding cooperation across semiconductors, artificial intelligence, quantum technologies, cybersecurity, and higher education. The collaboration brings together governments, academia, and industry leaders including ASML, NXP Semiconductors, Tata Electronics, and CG Semi.

The partnership is significant because it combines the Netherlands’ global leadership in semiconductor equipment and chip innovation with India’s expanding electronics manufacturing ecosystem and engineering workforce. By aligning strengths, both countries aim to create more resilient and trusted semiconductor supply chains at a time when chips have become critical to global technology competitiveness.

A key focus of the agreement is ecosystem development and industry collaboration. The Dutch Semicon Competence Centre will work closely with the India Semiconductor Mission to support startups, small and medium enterprises, and suppliers through technology sharing, innovation programs, and skill-building initiatives. This cooperation is expected to accelerate India’s semiconductor ambitions while opening new growth opportunities for Dutch companies.

Academic collaboration is another major pillar of the roadmap. Eindhoven University of Technology and University of Twente have partnered with leading Indian institutions such as Indian Institute of Science, IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Gandhinagar, IIT Guwahati, and IIT Madras to establish a semiconductor “brain bridge.” The initiative will promote researcher exchanges, joint innovation, and advanced skills development.

Beyond semiconductors, the roadmap expands cooperation in AI, photonics, cybersecurity, quantum technologies, and energy materials through aligned research priorities. Both nations will also strengthen higher education exchanges and institutional partnerships to build future-ready STEM talent.

The agreement additionally includes collaboration in the space sector, where both countries plan to use satellite-based technologies to address global challenges such as climate change, water management, food security, and air quality.

Overall, the India–Netherlands partnership represents a strategic step toward deeper technology cooperation, stronger innovation ecosystems, and diversified semiconductor supply chains. By combining industrial expertise, academic research, and policy alignment, both countries are positioning themselves to play a larger role in shaping the future of global deep-tech innovation.
