Ongoing infrastructure projects, such as the new road to Daulat Beg Oldie (DBO), are set to significantly improve logistical support for troops deployed in these remote regions.
In an effort to bolster the fast broadband internet connection in some challenging rugged terrains, the Indian army has now taken the initiative to install optical fibre connectivity at two of the most crucial locations in Ladakh: the Daulat Beg Oldi (DBO) and Siachen Glacier. The broadband connections were installed at elevations exceeding 18,000 feet.
The spokesperson of the Indian army said that the installation marks a significant milestone in the history of India’s internet connection installation. The installation proved to be an impediment as the regions are prone to harsh weather conditions and strenuous accessibility.
The installation is anticipated to enhance communication capabilities for the Indian Army significantly, enabling improved coordination and operational efficiency in one of the world’s highest and coldest battlefields. This upgrade ensures effective strategies and timely responses in challenging environments.India’s defence ministry said that the determination of the armed forces was essential in addressing the environmental challenges, ensuring that communication lines remained open and effective.
The Siachen Glacier has been a critical hub for military operations since India secured control of key positions during Operation Meghdoot in 1984. As the region gains further strategic significance near the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with Pakistan, recent advancements in connectivity highlight the necessity of maintaining a strong presence in this vital area.
Furthermore, ongoing infrastructure projects, such as the new road to Daulat Beg Oldie (DBO), are set to significantly improve logistical support for troops deployed in these remote regions. This vital infrastructure advancement not only showcases India’s technological progress but also emphasizes the Indian Army’s unwavering commitment to maintaining operational readiness in the harshest of conditions, said Rajnath Singh, Union Defence Minister.
